Now Providing Services In Swiss Screw Machining
Mayfly Manufacturing is now providing services in CNC Swiss Screw Machining. These type of machines were first introduced in the 19th century to produce small intricate parts for watches. Today, the machines are designed to handle both turning and milling operations. Unlike a conventional lathe, the material rotates and feeds through a guide bushing into the cutting tool. This means the OD turning tool always cuts right next to the bushing where there is support on the material. This makes Swiss Screw machining very effective for long and slender turned parts.
Swiss Screw machines can also take advantage of sub spindles and automatic bar feeders. These options reduce secondary operations and other unnecessary material handling. A completed part can come off of the machine unlike using a conventional lathe and/or mill. With fast cycle times, these machines are perfect for production runs.
